Civilization VI

Civilization VI is the sixth installment in this trailblazing turn-based strategy game. It offers a more in-depth and addictive experience, but it's still accessible enough so that anyone (newbie or veteran) can start enjoying it right from the get-go. This Android version also does a fantastic job of transferring the computer gaming experience to mobile devices.

The fact that Civilization VI has players of all backgrounds and levels in mind is evident from the very beginning. From the options menu you can choose the level of assistance you want for your game, ranging from 'I'm new to strategy games' to 'I don't need any assistance' to 'I'm new to this edition of Civilization.' Likewise, when starting a new game you can choose everything automatically, or customize every aspect of it: map size, number of civilizations, speed of the passage of time, and so on.

All the rounds of Civilization VI start the same way: with a settler and another unit (normally a warrior or an explorer). Your first objective is to find a good place to set up the first city and, from that moment on, start making important decisions. You have to choose the technology you investigate first, what politics you want to develop, what buildings you want to build, what units you want to train, etc. Each decision you make brings you one step closer to victory or defeat. And only time and the turns will decide which of the two it'll be.

Civilization VI is an outstanding game on all levels. This version for Android devices is a real gem, but it has some drawbacks that need mentioning. The first and most obvious one is that the game takes up more than 5GB once it's installed, which can be a problem for many players. Secondly, the free version only lets you play 60 rounds. That said, those 60 turns will give you over a half hour of playing time. Then, if you choose to buy the complete version, you can continue where you left off.
